These for me are the main generic conventions that I feel my target audience will associate with the Indie genre:
- Acoustic guitar
- Male
- Dark colour clothing
- Casual clothing e.g. Vans
- Derelict buildings
- Natural lighting
- Stool (often associated when the artist plays the guitar)
- Mid-shots
- Addressing the camera
I would want at least the majority of these generic conventions within my music video as it is these that connect with the audience and provide a strict understanding of the genre. Knowing the crux of your video to be within a specific genre, this can then lead to understanding the narrative and performance, the two things that a crucial to make a successful music video.
